Mohamed Salah is staying put at Liverpool, according to manager Jurgen Klopp, but Al-Ittihad is still preparing to submit a better offer for his services this week.
Al-Ittihad is prepared to make Liverpool a record-breaking £215 million offer for Mohamed Salah before the Saudi transfer deadline on Thursday.
Salah, 31, has recently been strongly connected with a move to the Middle East, and Al-Ittihad last week saw a massive £150 million offer rejected by the Reds in the last hours of the English transfer window.
The Egyptian superstar is not for sale at any price, according to Jurgen Klopp, and there is no chance that he will leave Anfield this summer, but that hasn’t stopped Al-Ittihad from putting together a better offer.
The Sun reports that Salah’s potential suitors plan to submit a new offer before Thursday that will surpass the existing transfer record amount with add-ons. A proposal of this nature is thought to be worth about £215 million to the Reds.
Jamie Carragher, a fan favorite at Anfield, said last week that, despite his reluctance to consider transferring Salah, his former club could not afford to refuse down a deal above £200 million for his services.
“When you look at what Harry Kane went for, about £100 million, and he is a year or two younger, but he only had a year to go on his deal at Spurs,” Carragher said in a statement to Sky Sports. Salah still has two more years and takes excellent care of himself. If Liverpool were to sell right away, they would demand more than his market value.
“Without the Saudi market, he would likely only be worth £100 million rather than £150 million. But why did they wait until now? Why didn’t they do it six months ago when they might have had him if they wanted him so badly and were willing to pay the money?
Salah may not want to move, so it’s up to Liverpool and Salah. Even his ardent admirers who don’t want him to leave may find themselves unable to refuse the offer if the sum reaches £200 million, in my opinion.
The fact that Liverpool wouldn’t be allowed to sign a replacement until January would be a significant restriction to any potential trade, even though it is unclear whether they would be able to reject a world-record bid for Salah.
Salah only signed a new three-year contract with Liverpool last summer to put an end to rumors about his future after Real Madrid transfer rumors surfaced. Since joining the Reds in 2017, the forward has made just 309 appearances and scored 188 goals.
